Crocs Cares, launched in 2007, provides shoes to families and children in need around the world, especially in its own backyard. What many people don't realize is that when disaster strikes or for the more than 1.4 billion people who live on less than $1.25 per day globally, having shoes to maintain proper sanitation and good health can be a luxury. Crocs Cares' donations aim to provide comfort and support when footwear is most needed.

"Giving back to the communities where we live and work is part of our culture. We encourage employees to participate in local philanthropic efforts as well as fundraisers for relief efforts across the U.S.," said John McCarvel, Crocs president and chief executive officer. "It's great to see how we've helped those in need for the last several years and we will continue to seek out opportunities to provide support where it's needed most."

Recently, Crocs Cares has been involved in relief efforts related to many of the natural disasters across the country including the flood in Boulder, Colo., the storms in Oklahoma and the fires in Colorado and California. In 2013, the program has raised and donated more than $150,000 for non-profit organizations, sponsored more than $50,000 for local organizations and has donated more than $1.3 million in shoe donations.

Since its inception, Crocs Cares has donated more than three million pairs of shoes to communities in need in more than 40 countries around the world. Crocs proudly partners with a variety of global non-profit organizations to help ship and distribute shoes to those in need, both abroad and within the U.S. The company also works with a number of organizations around the world to help identify and coordinate local shoe donations. Many of these organizations consider Crocs a 'perfect shoe' for those in developing parts of the world and following natural disasters because they are lightweight, don't absorb water and provide basic protection from harsh environmental elements.

"When a disaster strikes or when you identify a community in need, every bit of support, comfort or aid you can offer helps, and we've been fortunate to work with active non-profit partners to reach disaster areas and non-profit organizations that can benefit from our services," said Melissa Koester, program manager for Crocs Cares. "We are proud to support Operation Walk Denver, and make an impact in our local community as part of Colorado Gives Day."
