Our Impact in Action

Crocs Expands Takeback Program, Giving Old Crocs a New Life Nationwide

We’re giving people yet another reason to feel comfortable in Crocs shoes. Following a successful pilot, Crocs, Inc. announced the expansion of our “Old Crocs. New Life.” shoe takeback program this spring, reaching over 150 retail stores and online customers in the continental U.S. (excluding Hawaii and Puerto Rico).

The program represents an important step in our circularity journey — establishing collaborative, responsible partnerships that not only consider the impacts of our products on the environment, but also work to reduce harm through innovation.

How “OLd Crocs. New Life.” Works

We have established designated collection boxes and a no-cost mail-back service that allows customers to give their Crocs shoes back to us in any condition — from gently worn to well-loved.

Based on what we learned from our pilot program, collection boxes are now taken to our partners at ReCircled, where they are sorted based on their next-best path to reuse. Crocs shoes in good condition are directed to Soles4Souls’ 4Opportunity program, which works with a global network of entrepreneurs in developing countries to launch and sustain their own small businesses selling donated shoes and clothing.

Well-loved Crocs shoes will stay at ReCircled, where every effort will be made to process, sort and deconstruct them into post-consumer recycled material streams that have the highest potential for reuse.

“The growth of this program is an exciting continuation of our efforts to address the environmental and social challenges faced by the fashion industry and ultimately make a difference by keeping shoes on feet and out of landfills,” said Deanna Bratter, Vice President, Global Head of Sustainability, Crocs, Inc.

Why Our Takeback Program is important

According to experts at Circular, approximately 23 billion pairs of shoes are made each year, and billions end up in the landfill. Our takeback program recognizes the impact of this waste, strives to give old Crocs shoes a chance at a longer life and keeps footwear out of landfills.

We plan to continue to leverage partnerships and product innovations to further our impact and reduce waste in manufacturing, distribution and product end-of-life. To learn more about how Crocs champions circular models of production and consumption, see the 2023 Comfort Report.
