The most useful discovery I made during July’s American Sportfishing Association’s trade show in Las Vegas wasn’t fishing tackle, but shoes that have proved to be ideal for summer boating as well as everyday use. Crocs weren’t made with boaters in mind, but when noted angles George Foti discovered them, he knew he has a winner for fisherman. These slip-in shoes mix the comfort of clogs with space-age material that has incredible benefits.

Patented Closed Cell Foam molds to your feet to ensure comfort, and because the resin is closed and anti-microbial in nature it resists the bacterial fungus that causes foot odor in ordinary shoes. Holes throughout the top of the shoe allow water to flow right through, and they dry almost immediately. The resin has a high co-efficient of friction, making Crocs slip-resistant on boats. They’ll even float if you drop them overboard.

Crocs won’t win any awards for style, thought they do come in a wide variety of colors. I’ve been wearing a pair since mid-July and am a complete covert to the most comfortable “boat shoe” I’ve ever worn. No more smelly wet shoes or loose laces to trip me up. A dealer network is being developed, but Crocs can be ordered by e-mail through the company’s Web site (www.crocs.com).
