Million dollar babies
Toronto Star, Jan 22, 2006
Oh, go ahead and drool over the $2.2 million, 59-foot Carver yacht that’s bigger and more luxurious than most downtown condos. What’s the fun of a boat show in January if not imagining a journey over sparkling blue waters of the bay, the lakes, the rivers and the locks in a sumptuously appointed vessel on a delicious midsummer afternoon.
This year’s Toronto International Boat Show, running through 6 p.m. tomorrowat the National Trade Centre, Exhibition Place invites you to cruise eight miles of aisles with 1,000 new boats, including 40 that are floating on an indoor lake (http://www.torontoboatshow.com).
But it’s not only the million-dollar babies that transport you to the shores of summer with a wish and a fantasy. Even a glimpse of brightly coloured new sandals can take you away and make you feel the water and the rocks…
Mile 2: Crocs are the new colourful, cool (some have portholes for ventilation and drainage), non-marking pressed foam shoes for boats and beaches. There are three new styles including the Islander, a casual moc with an orthotic heel and built-in arch support that’s sure to be coveted for decks on water and on land. “In 2005, the colourful and somewhat kitschy brand leapt from footwear fad to cultural phenomenon,” reported footwearnews.com, as Crocs began promoting its moulded resin shoes that weigh mere ounces with the slogan “Ugly Can Be Beautiful.” Prices range from $25 to about $65. Most of the products are made in Canada but the parent company is based in Boulder, Colo. See all their products at the show or go to http://www.crocs.com to view all the products and colours, to order or to find local retail outlets…
